Ex-glamour model to co-drive in Wales Rally GB, the final round of World Rally Championship which begins on Thursday

Mother of two undertook intense training schedule to earn international rally licence in just eight weeks

Peta tells husband Mark Cavendish to make room on the mantelpiece for her own sporting trophy

Ex-glamour model Peta Todd will make a sensational career switch this week as she takes part as a co-driver in Wales Rally GB, the final round of the prestigious World Rally Championship.

Peta, the wife of world champion cyclist Mark Cavendish, will look to prove four wheels are better than two in the Cavendish household as she navigates for Formula One pundit Tony Jardine in the three-day event, with the opening ceremony on Thursday evening and competition across Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Peta has had a whirlwind introduction to rallying, having to complete an intensive training schedule and four rally events in just eight weeks to earn her international rally licence. This period has had its setbacks too, with Peta spending a week in hospital recovering from a painful collapsed lung injury.

The mother of two wouldn’t allow the injury to force the wheels off her rally bid though, and she is more determined than ever to bring some of her own sporting silverware into the house to rival Mark’s ever-growing collection.

Peta commented: “He is ultra-successful; we know that, his trophies are all over the house. I’ve decided it’s time to win a few trophies of my own, by taking on my own sporting challenge.

“Once Mark knew that I was taking on a navigators role in a rally car at 120 mph in the World Rally Championship he was 150% jealous, he has already tried to push me out of the seat – I told him to stick to two wheels!”

The Prospeed team will be arriving at Deeside Service Park, in North East Wales, with Peta and Tony’s PS4 Driveclub Mitsubishi Evo 9 later today. Kumho have dispatched their special selection of tyres to the team for the rally and MIS Motorsport have arranged all the insurance needs, including Peta’s life insurance.
